Celebrating Christmas at DST

13 Dec

The winner of our photo competition

DST offices around the country are full of festive cheer as Christmas grows nearer. From seasonal markets and parties through to environment days and charity appeals, there has been plenty to get involved in. Here are some of the highlights:

Environment Week

This year’s Environment Week has been one of the most significant features of our Christmas calendar, with offices around Essex, Ireland and Scotland enjoying Christmas markets that aimed to not only showcase our environmental achievements, but also celebrate and support local businesses and suppliers. The markets were well-attended and a huge success, with plenty of locally-produced bargains snapped up.

Each location featured different vendors and the environmental stands displayed information on DST’s paper purchasing and recycling stats  which includes the use of paper in-house coming from sustainable sources. We also became zero-waste to landfill in our Essex locations and at Erskine Court earlier this year and it was the perfect opportunity to let employees know of this new initiative.

Paragona House sharing information on our environmental efforts

We pride ourselves on our efforts to reduce waste where possible and encourage environmentally-friendly practices and purchases, including our stationery purchasing which currently stands at around 60% on ‘green’ products. We also run a car share scheme, a self-managed programme where people sign up on our intranet and match with fellow drivers or riders to save money and help the environment.

The Brentwood Christmas Market in full swing

Another fantastic feature of the markets was the addition of the Essex Wildlife Trust – of which we are platinum members. We invited the Trust along to help show our support and allow them to highlight the wonderful work they do in the Essex community.

To cap off Environment Week, we’ve run a photo competition across our Essex, Scotland and Park West offices. Team members were given the opportunity to send in wildlife photographs, which were then voted on by DST employees. The winner received an Amazon Echo Plus and guide book, with the runner-up given a voucher for OAKhouse Bar and Restaurant. Well done to all who participated!

Christmas toy and gift appeal

Many of our international offices are running Christmas toy and gift appeals to make Christmas more special for disadvantaged children and adults in local communities. DST employees have been generous with donations to St Vincent de Paul in Dublin, the Smith Family in Melbourne, Start Up Stirling and Social Bite in Stirling and the Danny Green Fund in Essex. It’s a brilliant opportunity to help spread some cheer this season, and we encourage everyone to get behind their local charities and help where they can.

We’re running daily quizzes in the build up to Christmas to help keep the seasonal spirit alive, with random winners chosen daily and treated to boxes of chocolates. With hundreds of entries, it’s clear that there’s a huge appetite for Christmas cheer at DST! Stay tuned to see more of our festive fun.
