The role is required to communicate technical information about products and services in a way that is easy to understand. The information may be presented in the form of user guides for software applications, reference and instruction manuals for appliances, training guides or online help incorporated into software and operating guides.

The Technical Author will establish an understanding of the product or applications and then design and write documentation to explain it to users. They may also provide this information in various other forms including software demos and interactive tutorials, using video, illustrations and graphics.

Main Responsibilities

  • Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation
  • Understand our solutions and work with product designers and developers
  • Work with technical staff to make products easier to use and thus need fewer instructions
  • Organise and write supporting documents for products
  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, charts, and videos to increase user understanding
  • Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals or videos
  • Standardise content across platforms and media
  • Gather usability feedback from customers
  • Revise documents as new issues arise
  • Work with developers to document our API as a commercial product
  • Have a complete understanding of grammar and mechanics

Ideal Candidate


  • Proven experience in creating online/HTML guides for software products
  • The ability to work within a team
  • The ability to self-manage
  • Basic understanding of markup languages


  • Experience creating short instructional videos (for YouTube and other video services)
  • Understanding of user-centered design methods
  • Experience working with Scrum teams
